Academic Programs

Recognized with more Regents Teaching Excellence Awards than any other UW institution, the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s College of Letters and Science offers outstanding programs in the sciences, fine and performing arts, humanities and social sciences. L&S students are challenged by a nationally-recognized faculty committed to excellence in teaching, research and service.

Promoting a broad-based, liberal education for all of its students, the College of Letters and Science hosts the University Studies Program, UW Oshkosh’s one-of-a-kind program of general education, which provides students with broad knowledge of the wider world while helping them develop strong and transferable intellectual and practical skills to prepare for the challenges of work and for a meaningful and satisfying life.

The largest college on campus, Letters and Science also offers more than 40 undergraduate majors, numerous minors, as well as emphases, certificates, pre-professional programs and graduate programs. Both undergraduate and graduate students have the opportunity to participate in collaborative student-faculty research, internships, community engagement projectsstudy abroad programs, and many other high-impact learning experiences.

To empower and prepare students for engaged citizenship, Letters and Science also participates an innovative campus-wide Global Scholar and a forthcoming Diversity Scholar program to develop students’ sense of social responsibility and ability to navigate an increasingly complex, diverse and interdependent world.

Advising

The Undergraduate Advising and Resource Center (UARC) is comprised of professional advisors who serve as a resource to students, whether they are choosing a major, signing up for classes, reading a STAR (degree audit), and more.

Each academic department has faculty members that advise students within their chosen academic field.   If you are a student who has an assigned faculty advisor, plan to meet with him/her first before asking for assistance from the UARC.

Student Academic Affairs Officer

The Student Academic Affairs Office of the College of Letters and Science (COLS) assists students with academic status and questions about academic policies and procedures, including requests for academic exceptions from the standard rules and requirements set by UW Oshkosh. The steps provided on the UARC website for responding to or requesting an academic exception apply both to students pursuing a major within the College of Letters and Science as well as students enrolled in individual COLS courses.

Please stop by Jean Patt’s office in Dempsey Hall, room 130E for more information.
